...the next best thing to being there... - Los Angeles Times
Always wanted to be at Sundance? Well here’s your ticket.
INDEPENDENT’S DAY gets behind the scenes at Sundance, Slamdance, and even the Slumdance film festivals in Park City, Utah to reveal the amusing and engaging stories of the maverick filmmakers who launched their careers there. Produced in association with the Sundance Channel, this film features many of the indie stars that changed the world of filmmaking. Steven Soderbergh (sex, lies, and videotape), Tom DiCillo (Living In Oblivion), Greg Mottola (The Daytrippers), and Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men) are just a few of the filmmakers who speak candidly about the Cinderalla story that is Sundance as well as the darker realities of independent filmmaking.
A player in the independent film scene herself, director Marina Zenovich–who appeared in The Player, among other films–spent several years investigating the excitement of this highly celebrated festival circuit. What she uncovers are the real tales that captivate us all, from the filmmakers’ stories to the passion, reality, and rags-to-riches dreams that have brought these extraordinary individuals together at this one-of-a-kind festival.
