1985 Buick Grand National

A high-horsepower, attention-grabbing celebration of speed, the 1985 Grand National represented Buick’s return to its musclecar roots.

Now, two teams of veteran mechanics try to extract everything they can from the Grand National’s made-for-speed equipment—including turbo engines, fuel injectors, and racing transmissions—to transform the car into a big, mean racing machine.

The premise is simple: FULL THROTTLE selects two teams who are each given the same model of classic car in a similar state of disrepair. They’re supplied with a garage, tools, and parts, and after 20 hours of repair time, they battle it out in an old-fashioned drag-race on a certified track. The winner keeps both cars. The loser keeps nothing.

They’re fast, they’re flashy, they reignited America’s love of muscle cars — and finally, the 1985 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL returns with a vengeance on the track.
