By the early twenty-first century, the once magnificent 1891 Queen Anne style McCubbins–McCanless House in Salisbury, North Carolina, had fallen into a state of neglect and disrepair.
In an effort to save this remarkable piece of architecture, HISTORY™ teamed up with hardware giant Lowe’s® and the Historic Salisbury Foundation to perform a full-scale restoration of the home. Hosted by home improvement icon Steve Thomas, A VICTORIAN REBORN documents every aspect of this ambitious revival process—from repairs to the foundation to the electrical and plumbing necessities to the masonry work on the house’s four chimneys. Most striking of all is the reconstruction of one of the home’s most distinguishing features—the second-story front porch with shingled gables, ornate turned posts, and solid brackets with intricate sunburst designs.
With astonishing before-and-after footage and interviews with restoration experts and historians alike, SAVE OUR HISTORY presents this one-of-a-kind look at the monumental effort involved in returning a piece of history to its former glory.
