New Video And Tribeca Film Debut New Sports-Related Titles This Fall

Touch-Football Indie “TURKEY BOWL,” Cricket Doc “FIRE IN BABYLON,” and Little League All-Stars Doc “BOYS OF SUMMER” Available October 18 on DVD

September 26, 2011 – New York, NY –Following its announcement of a new slate of releases from Tribeca Film, New Video will release three titles on October 18 on DVD: Turkey Bowl, about a group of friends that play touch football, Fire in Babylon, about the longest reigning cricket team, and Boys of Summer, about Curaçao’s unbeatable Little League baseball team.

Every summer a group of ten friends gather in a Los Angeles park for an annual game of touch football where the prize is a frozen turkey. As the game unravels in real time, a little friendly (and funny) competition reveals deeper truths about post-college life. An official selection at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, IndieWIRE praised TURKEY BOWL as “a showcase for Smith’s technical skills and his ability to capture the nuances of tight-knit camaraderie…”

TURKEY BOWL is directed, produced and written by Kyle Smith; produced by Stephen Paratore; edited by Brian Wessel; cinematography by Jeff Powers. The DVD features deleted scenes from the film.

Set in the turbulent era of apartheid in South Africa, race riots in England, and civil unrest in the Caribbean, FIRE IN BABYLON celebrates the emancipation of a people through the sport of cricket. The documentary, which was released in New York in July 2011, chronicles the glorious supremacy of the West Indies cricket team throughout the late ‘70s and ‘80s as they dominated the sport at the highest level—longer than any team in history. The West Indian cricketers proved that a bat and ball were more effective than gunfire in the battle against racial injustice and struggle for black rights. With Caribbean flair, a fearless spirit, and a thumping reggae beat, they hijacked the genteel game of the privileged elite and replayed it on their own terms with the declaration that people of color will not be dictated to, on a cricket ground or in any other field of life.

From award-winning director Stevan Riley (Blue Blood) and the Academy Award®-winning producers of The Last King of Scotland, FIRE IN BABYLON charts an untold epic in sporting history through insightful interviews with former teammates and detailed commentary on adrenaline-packed matches; the film includes a dynamic archive of classic music by the likes of Bob Marley and the Wailers, Gregory Issacs, and Burning Spear.

“Cricket in ‘Fire in Babylon’ is a mélange of brutality and grace; with showmanship and etiquette…” – The New York Times

FIRE IN BABYLON  is written and directed by Stevan Riley; executive produced by Ben Goldsmith and Ben Elliott; produced by Charles Steel and John Battsek; co-produced by George Chignell and Jessica Ludgrove; edited by Peter Haddon; cinematography by Stuart Bentley. The DVD bonus features include an interview with director Stevan Riley and producer John Battsek presented by American Express.
